Student Organizations Are Invited To Participate In Zipcar’s 2019-20 Clean Air Grant Competition

With Zipcar’s new Clean Air Competition, student organizations can compete to earn up to $1000 in Clean Air Grant funding for their group, reduce UF’s carbon footprint, and help limit the use of single-occupancy vehicles, all while receiving free Zipcar driving credits each month. The contest is free and easy to join – simply email Zipcar at to sign your group up and begin competing right away.

How It Works: Each student organization that signs up receives their own unique contest link to give out to prospective new Zipcar members. Anyone who signs up and opens a new Zipcar member account by using the unique link automatically scores points for the organization – you receive 1600 points per new member, which represents the 1600 lbs of CO2 that the average car sharing member reduces from the environment annually. The three student organizations with the most points at the end of the contest period on April 30, 2020 will win Clean Air Grants of $1000 (first place), $750 (second), and $500 (third).

Free Zipcar Driving Credits: Each new Zipcar member who signs up using your organization’s unique link will receive a free hour ($8.50) of driving credit per month to use however they’d like. This provides an incentive to new members to sign up as well as helping to reduce even more CO2 from the atmosphere with shared driving.

What Fees Are Involved?: UF students are charged a discounted annual membership fee of $15 to start a new Zipcar account. There are no fees for student organizations participating in the contest.

How Do I Sign My Organization Up?: Email Zipcar at to join the contest, receive your organization’s unique sign-up link, and begin recruiting new members and scoring points toward winning a Clean Air Grant.
