SNAP
The Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol (SNAP) is a free, nightly, campus safety and transportation service for currently-enrolled UF students provided by UF Transportation and Parking Services, with additional support from the UF Student Traffic Court. SNAP operates four to seven 15-passenger vans (depending on demand) seven nights a week from 8:30 PM – 3 AM.
Please be aware that SNAP can only transport current UF students and staff with valid Gator 1 IDs and cannot provide service for family members, guests or other companions (unless those individuals are also current UF students or staff members).
Download The UF SNAP By Spare App To Request Rides
The UF SNAP by Spare app is free and available in the iOS and Android app stores and uses Gatorlink authentication for current UF students to sign in and request rides.
Important Tips For Using UF SNAP by Spare
- SNAP usually receives the most demand for rides between 8:30PM-midnight each night, so please be patient and expect longer wait and ride times during these timeframes.
- Track your van on the app and plan to arrive at your stop several minutes before the van arrives! Due to high demand for service, our drivers can only wait 1 minute max at each stop, so make sure you arrive early to avoid missing your ride.
- If you don’t feel safe waiting outside at your stop, you can wait indoors nearby and track your van on the app. Some areas of campus, especially outdoors, don’t have good WiFi signal though, so make sure you’ve got good Wifi or are using your data plan so the tracking map runs smoothly!
- Make sure you’re always updated to the latest app and OS version for best results!
- SNAP drivers can only pick up passengers at our 85 designated stops on campus and at UF-owned off-campus locations. If you enter your current address for your pick-up, the app will send you to the closest SNAP stop.
- SNAP is a safe ride service and pools as many students as possible in each van to maximize safe transportation access. However, please be aware that this means your ride may take longer than expected while your driver is being routed to pick up other passengers in the nearby area.
- Your pick-up ETA is the system’s best estimate based on the request volume and traffic at the time your ride is accepted. Don’t cancel and re-enter your ride to try to get a better ETA, though, since frequent cancellations force the algorithm to reschedule all rides and makes service slower for everyone.
- SNAP’s fleet contains one wheelchair-capable van for ADA-accessible service, and those rides are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please be aware that if you are requesting service from an ADA-accessible vehicle, wait times may sometimes be longer than normal, especially during periods when SNAP is experiencing heavy demand for service and/or other customers have already placed ADA-accessible ride requests ahead of you.

Finally, if you’d prefer not to download the UF SNAP by Spare app, you can still request SNAP service by using the UF SNAP by Spare web portal. The web portal allows customers to submit ride requests and track their van in the same manner as the UF SNAP by Spare app and can be accessed from any browser.
